shoes!
I started working in a comfort shoe store earlier this year, and have since found myself checking out people's shoes constantly. I guess I talk about them all day and like learning more and differentiating the good ones from the downright horrible ones. I am drawn to quality comfort shoes with rich colors, and unique design/embellishments. Of course there are some absolutely gorgeous, horribly painful shoes out there too.
In between selling my art at a busy street fair this summer, I held my camera at waist level and took photos from under my display table of the people passing by. I enjoyed catching a bit of the bustle from a unique and anonymous perspective. The random click of the camera as people naturally and unsuspectingly passed by created some great compositions. Other times, I would very intentionally see some cool shoes about to pass and try my best to capture them in a photo.
Below you will find some of the images I took. A broad spectrum of shoes, like the people that are wearing them. If you are interested in a particular image or a group of images, I can make prints of these. They will be on a block of wood and varnished with resin. Approximately 5" x 7" unless otherwise requested, for $25.
Thanks for looking!

back in business!

The Thirty-One! Art Show drew a big crowd with a long line wrapping around the block again. Thanks to the friends and family who came by to support me, and those of you who supported me with your kind words from afar! We had a good time.
Below you will find images of all 31 paintings and a few images of the event. It took me about a month to post this stuff up.... enjoying the summer i suppose!
...and one of these days, I will let you know about my new website! I just purchased a year commitment to a hosting site and with lots of tutorials on how to build it, it just seems a bit daunting at the moment and a very-left brained project indeed. But, I am also excited to push myself and create this on my own. I want to connect the site to Pay Pal and really start more consistently supporting myself with my art. So stay tuned.
Thanks for lookin'!

Thirty-One! show update
The Thirty-One Show is Aug 1st! What is this show all about? For more details and to view artwork, check out the official blog at www.thirtyshows.blogspot.com. For a shortcut, click on the link to the right titled "Thirty-One! Show blog (Summer 2008)".
To see pictures from the last thirty show, taken by a professional photographer, click on the link to the right titled "Thirty! Show photos (Winter 2007)"
I have been out of town the last couple weekends, and have yet to really get started! So as pleasant as these trips have been, I set myself up for a busy next couple weeks. But, I always do best under pressure. I have until July 30th to turn them in, so there is a little time left :) Some themes have been going around in my head: I probably will include some more botanical stuff, and include some mixed media collages (a little sewing, some acrylic transfers), and maybe a few pen and ink drawings. We'll see. I will post images of all 31 pieces on this blog, so stay keep checking back!
Hope you can make it!

Upcoming shows.
In a couple weeks, I will be hanging a solo show at Everyday Wine, a cute little wine bar on NE Alberta and NE 15th. The show goes up June 25th and will be up through the end of July. I will be showing a bunch of new, smaller paintings/collages with a botanical theme. I plan on having a closing reception in late July. Stay tuned for pictures and updates.
I will be participating in the Alberta Street Last Thursday each month through the end of the summer, setting up in the usual spot (in front of Townshend's Tea house between NE 22nd & 23rd and NE Alberta). I have new handmade tile coasters and resin coated prints on wood. Come visit! Next one is June 26th. You can check out my freshly hung painting show and drop by my table! Hope to see you there.
I am pleased to announce that I will again be participating in the second Thirty! Show. Thirty artists create thirty small paintings in thirty days, and they are sold one night only for thirty dollars each. Last winter's show was a lot of fun and a huge success. Participating artists will pick up panels in late June, paint the month of July, and the show is August first. Stay tuned for all the specifics and links in the coming weeks.
Enjoy the sun!

Tin Can Banana!
Here is a preview of my Banana Peel lamp for an upcoming show called Tin Can Banana in Alberquerque, New Mexico. As far as the tin can part goes, stay tuned... it will be part of the base.

Here's what's happening...
I am currently working on a lampshade made out of banana peels for a show called "Tin Can Banana". I will post pictures soon. Still working on the resin layers, and am kind of bummed that it shriveled up and completely turned black, but what do you expect when you are working with banana peels?
I am gearing up for the Last Thursday Alberta Art Walks starting in May, and am planning on doing the Alberta Art Hop in May as well. I am planning on making a bunch of new coasters, and want to start making resin jewelry for these events.
In late June, I will have a painting show up at a cute little wine bar called Everyday Wine on NE Alberta. Stay tuned.

Thirty! Art Show 12.07.07
Hi All,
Well, the Thirty! Art Show was more than I ever hoped it would be. For those of you who did not get my practically daily emails/postings building up to the show, the idea was for 30 artists to create 30 paintings in 30 days. Each artist was provided pre-cut, 8" x 8" wood on Nov 1st, and had 30 days to create 30 pieces. Dry, ready- to- be- hung work was dropped off on December 1st.

Before the show, I went to dinner in the neighborhood. As I crossed Burnside st, I tried to remember which side street the show was on. As seen above, I saw a long line out a door and around the corner along Burnside of people waiting to get in. I couldn't believe this was a line for the art show! It looked more like a line for people waiting to see some famous band or something, but no, Portland is just a city full of amazing art supporters.

At about 7 pm, I managed to sneek in, while my friends waited in line for about 15 minutes. Once inside, it was standing room only. (If you click the above picture to enlarge, you will find me in the left back corner, with the red eyes) The venue wasn't enormous, but by no means tiny. It was a bit overwhelming, but so exciting too. People were given stickers to write their names on, and volunteers (dressed in white) would mark pieces, and buyers could take the pieces off the walls at their leisure. It took a while to move around at first, with everybody trying to get first dibbs on pieces. I ended up leaving to get drinks with friends after the first hour, and waited for the crowd to die down a little. The show still had 3 more hours. By the end of the night, the group as a whole sold well over 600 paintings in 4 hours. I sold 24 of 30, which I was very pleased about.
The paintings were sold for $30 each, $20 of which went to the artists, the remaining $10 went to OM Tradition Arts, the Healing Arts facility where the show took place. In order to be fairly compensated for my time and materials, I aimed at spending no more than 2 hours on each piece. Of course paintings can be stubborn at times, but for the most part, I kept to that schedule.
Below are more photos of the event, as well as all thirty of my pieces. The remaining pieces are available for $30 each, plus shipping. I can also make prints of any of the 30 for $18 each, plus shipping.
For more detail, click on any image to enlargel. I would love any comments/feedback. Thanks for looking!

Thirty! Art Show

Hi there, I have been hiding out for a while. But, soon I will be painting like a mad woman. I am involved in an an art show that requires making 30 small paintings during the month of November. The idea is for thirty artists to create thirty paintings in 30 days, and they are sold one night only for 30 dollars apiece. Today is November 3rd, the panels are gessoed and sanded, and now it's time to get busy!
